The Foundation's workshops are organized by its principal investigators and by attendees of previous workshops. Organizers are responsible for chairing the workshop, arranging presenters, selecting the venue, and determining whether the proceedings warrant publication. The Foundation requires all workshop attendees to present an abstract. It is also a policy to have a comparative study with another species presented at each workshop whenever possible. Over the years Foundation workshops have brought together a wide range of researchers, from the most senior to the youngest in the field.
